Home Water Damage

You are just returning home from a wonderful evening out, you open the door of your beautiful home and water pours out. There are few things more devastating than water damage in your home. No matter how the water damage occurs the cleanup needs to start immediately.

When water damage takes over your home Klein's DKI can immediately help. All our water technicians are trained and certified by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification). Advanced drying techniques and some of the most up-to-date drying equipment is used.

Depending on the condition of the water and how long your home has been wet we can usually dry out the walls and floor with minimal removal of wet materials. If the home water damage is from sewage, flood water, or has been standing for a long time there will be more that has to be done such as removing some drywall and flooring.

Once your home is dry our knowledgeable staff will restore your home to its pre-loss condition. Since Klein's was in the remodeling business prior to specializing in insurance work we are very qualified to restore your home to its original condition.

When our work is done your home will be in the same or better condition than it was before the home water damage occurred.

What should you do?

Here are a few steps that can be taken before we arrive to minimize the damage to your home.

  • Turn Off Water – Locate the source of the water and if possible turn it off. If there is no way to shut it off use the main shut off valve usually located by the street.
  • Turn Off Electricity – Depending on the type of damage the electricity in the area of the water damage may need to be turned off as soon as possible in order to avoid electrical shock.
  • Remove Valuable Items – Remove any small valuable items. Move furniture to a dry area, if not possible place aluminum foil or heavy plastic under furniture to prevent further damage. Pick up wet cushions, rugs, drapes, and other fabrics. Wipe down furniture to speed up the drying process.
  • Ventilate – If weather permits open windows and doors for airflow. In the summer turn on air conditioning and direct fans at the damaged area. Open cabinet doors and drawers to provide ventilation.
  • Notify your insurance carrier – Report the damage to your insurance agent or company. Inform your carrier you are working with Klein's DKI.

These are just a few tips to help you minimize the damage to your home in the event of a water loss. Insurance policies require the insured to show due diligence in the event of a loss so it is the homeowners' responsibility to take the necessary steps.
